A life-long area resident and graduate of St. Johns High School, Toth worked in the bakery at the Meijer store in DeWitt before joining the staff at Andy T's Farm Market four years ago. She manages the day-to-day operation of Andy T's Bake Shop, in addition to baking all the tasty treats that are available fresh daily.
"I love it here - the hometown atmosphere and all the friendly people who come in everyday make it a great place to work and shop," Toth says. "It's really fun to bake all the items that our customers enjoy like our pumpkin roll and caramel apple pie - those are probably the favorites."
The caramel apple pie is just one of 11 varieties that are all made with fresh Michigan fruit. The double-crust pie varieties feature a special cut-out of the Great Lakes State on the top.
"We're very proud of the fact that everything here in the bake shop comes from Michigan growers, and we use no preservatives," Toth says, adding that it's sometimes difficult to keep pace with shoppers' needs. "We're baking all day long on weekends so that our most popular baked goods - like the pumpkin roll - are always available."
The 13-inch-long confection is a Andy T's Bake Shop signature item, serving up to a dozen hungry eaters; half-size rolls are also available. Either size comes with or without nuts, all liberally sprinkled with powdered sugar.
Andy T's cobblestone bread is gaining in popularity, most likely due to its fresh, Michigan fruit filling. Other bread varieties include white, wheat, garlic, cheese and Ukrainian bread which is new this year.
"We'll also be making fresh fruit smoothies with Michigan fruit," Toth says, adding that locally-grown vegetables and fruits - like strawberries - are making an appearance now that summer is just around the corner.
ST. JOHNS - From homemade pies and donuts, to breads of all varieties - and, of course - the famous "Pumpkin Roll," something yummy and delicious is always available fresh from the oven at Andy T's Bake Shop.
Dianne Toth, the lady responsible for all those good eats, has more than a little baking experience. Long-time area residents may recall seeing her behind the bakery counter at Andy's IGA that was located for many years near the current site of Sundance Buick, Pontiac, GMC in St. Johns.
"That's where I got my start a year or so after high school," the friendly baker says with a smile, adding that she's "sort of gone from one Andy to another - with a lot of years in between."
